*Donald MacLaughlan (1876-1938) was born in Canada, his family moving to Boston, Massachusetts in 1890 - whilst MacLauchlan travelled to Europe, studying firstly at the École des Beaux Arts and subsequently with Jean Leon Gerome and Jean Paul Laurens. It was around this time that he concentrated on producing etchings which he did for the remainder of his career. His work was popular and widely exhibited both in Europe (where he was based) and also in the U.S.
