*English poet, playwright, designer and wood engraver, Sturge Moore was born in Hastings, Sussex and artistically trained at Croydon and Lambeth Art Schools, studying wood engraving under Charles Roberts at the latter.  However, it is for his literary achievements that he is better known. A prolific poet (once being considered for Poet Laureate) and playwright (author of 31 plays), Sturge Moore was a good friend of W.B. Yates who described him as "one of the most exquisite poets writing in England".  Despite his literary orientation, Sturge Moore was also known for book design and was a member of the wood engravers and lithographers’ Society of Twelve.  In later years he did not enjoy good health and died in 1944.
