Although the image was featured in the 1908 'Calendarium Londinense' (The London Almanac), this is an original print, the plated mark being clearly visible. The print itself is laid on board and is in good, original condition as illustrated.
William Monk RE (1863-1937) - Chester born, William Monk was a painter and printmaker. Originally trained at the Antwerp Royal Academy, Belgium, his output featured mostly architectural views. Monk was elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 1899 and was a frequent exhibitor. He lived in London until 1933 before returning to his native Cumbria where he died in 1937. His work remains popular, and examples are held by the British, Victoria and Albert, and Imperial War Museums.
