* Col. Robert Charles Goff:  a career soldier before retiring to concentrate on his artistic talents, Goff is best remembered as an accomplished etcher with a particular interest in topographical subjects. Greatly influenced by the work of James McNeill Whistler, Goff was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1887.  Twice married and well connected, Goff initially had homes in London and Brighton before moving to Florence in the 1890’s and then finally to Switzerland during the First World War, where he died.

In 2011, Brighton Museum and Gallery held an exhibition of 50 of his etchings and other works on paper
