Paul Maurou (1848-1931) - born in Avignon and later became a pupil of Charles Michel Guilbert d’Annelle (1820-1889) director of the Avignon Drawing School. Exhibited lithographs at the Paris Salon from 1875, subsequently becoming a member of the Societe du Salon des Artistes Francais. In December 1884, he co-founded with Alfred Lemercier the Society of French Lithographers of which he took the presidency in the early 1900s. During the 1880s, Maurou worked as an illustrator for Maison Quantin, the Paris based publisher of popular posters and children’s illustrations. He was also a professor in the first lithography workshop set up in Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1906 and continued to work as a lithographer and poster artist until his death in 1931.
