* Esteban Fekete (1924-2009). Born in Budapest, Fekete was the son of an engineer. A keen athlete, he had the chance to join an athletic delegation to Paris in 1947 and took the opportunity to defect. He quickly moved to Argentina where he became an Argentinian citizen in 1951. Whilst working as an engineer, he met and married Maria Rongine, a chemist who encouraged his artistic development. Working between Argentina and Germany, due to Maria’s work, the couple finally settled in Germany in 1965 when Fekete was granted German citizenship. Difficult to categorise, Fekete’s work contained elements of both abstract and representational styles. He worked in many mediums including tempera, enamel, wood and linocut, and was highly experimental in the development of colour printing techniques.
