 * Cameron was one of Scotland’s most prolific and influential artists. He was born in Glasgow, studied at both Glasgow and Edinburgh Schools of Art where he was encouraged to take up etching because of the strength of his pen drawings. Although he also made many paintings, drawings and watercolours, it was as a printmaker that he initially received the most recognition. Cameron had a rare ability to capture his subjects with remarkably few lines. During his career he produced over five hundred etching plates, with subjects ranging from atmospheric interiors to dramatic landscapes, as well as detailed studies of buildings and figures.
