*Born in Wexford into a wealthy military family, Myra Kathleen Hughes (1877-1918) was a painter and etcher.  Her art studies included a period at the Royal College of Art in London where she was trained in the techniques of etching and engraving by one of the leading figures of the Etching Revival in Britain, Frank Short (1857–1945). She remained for the rest of her life in London.  In 1911, Hughes was elected an associate of the Royal Society of Painters, Etchers and Engravers. She exhibited at the Royal Academy and at the Dudley Galleries in London and, from the 1890s, in Dublin at the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Watercolour Society of Ireland and the Dublin Sketching Club. Hughes' work comprised 'en plein air' studies of nature and the built environment.
